Hi Luigi,
I enjoy reading your emails and I have a simple [I hope] PowerPoint
problem for you to solve [I also hope].
I train scientists to give professional presentations, and I'd like to
be able to put MPEGS of their experiments into the presentations. When I'm
making the PowerPoint slides and 'Insert' an MPEG into a slide, I get the
message:
mpeg 16 - CreateMPEG32 TASK_CMD is not successful!!
If I click the OK button, I get the same message again.
If I click the OK button again, I get the message a third time.
If I click the OK button again, the MPEG is loaded in perfect
condition...... and I have the choice of having either having it run
automatically at slide opening or of making it clickable.
Then, when I run the presentation and come to the slide, the MPEG loads
normally, but the mpeg 16 CreateMPEG32 TASK_CMD is not successful!!
message appears on-screen again. If I click the OK button (just one time)
the MPEG runs perfectly.
Any ideas as to why the mpeg 16 message appears and how I can avoid it?
Thanks for any help you can offer."
Luigi answered:
"Dear Donald,
I have read with attention your problem and I attempt to provide the
best technical advice I have been able to collect on this subject:
1) The most common cause is due to having an outdated version of Windows
Media Player.
See http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;EN-US;q232547
You can get the latest version from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/
windowsmedia/software
2) Check your C:\Windows\win.ini file under section [mci extensions].
Is there a mid=Sequencer or mid=MPEGVideo and midi=Sequencer or midi=MPEGVideo
lines? If not, put them in.
3) Check your C:\Windows\system.ini file under its [mci] section.
You should have a line "MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv". If it is not
mciqtz.drv, then replace it.
4) Open your Window's system.ini file with a text editor like notepad.
Find the line "MPEGVideo=mpeg16.dll" (probably under the
header "mci") and change it to "MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv".
After making the change, save it as system.ini and do a Restart of your
system.
You should be able to fix your problem with one of the above.
Cheers,
and thanks for being a supportive reader
Luigi"
