Fred asked the following question:

QUESTION: I've seen this in other presentations, how do you
switch from power point to the desktop? I've used Alt-Tab but
if I have any other application running it will cycle through
all of them. I just want the desktop to show, any answers.. Fred

ANSWER: You can easily switch to your Windows desktop by
utilizing a good keyboard shortcut creation utility. These
programs allow you to assign a specific key combination to
execute any kind of action you select. A keyboard shortcut can
easily open up a Web page, a Word document, a specific
application, play a sound or launch a movie.

I personally use and recommend Finger Prince (USD $ 19.95) from
Milori http://www.milori.com/ttools/order/
pricing.asp
as it is an extremely effective and well designed tool.

What I do to create the simple magic you have described is the
following:

a) I create a shortcut for the "Show Desktop" command which
is normally accessible at the bottom of your Windows desktop in the
taskbar. This is an icon with a blue background and a white
field in the foreground showing a small paper sheet and a
pencil. By right-clicking on this icon and selecting "Create
Shortcut" I am able to automatically create a shortcut icon on
the desktop that will be called "Shortcut to Show Desktop".

b) I rename the shortcut "DesktopShow!" and I launch Finger
Prince.

c) Inside Finger Prince I choose to Add a new shortcut and I
select the button labelled "programs" to create a shortcut
equivalent to those that normally serve to launch an
application.

d) I use the "Browse" button to identify and select the
"DesktopShow!" shortcut that I have placed on the desktop.

e) I assign a keyboard key combination (e.g. Ctrl U)

f) To make sure I can also switch back to PowerPoint as easily I
create another shortcut that launches PowerPoint. In my case
since PowerPoint is already open it simply switches back
instantly to the open presentation.

There are also many other utilities you can utilize to achieve
the same result and you can find many of them at places like
Download.com and at Simtel.net. One of them is also very good
and it is called WinMapper. You can download a fully working
copy, valid for 30 days at:

http://www.spinner.nl/products/
winmapper/winmapper.html
.
With this utility (USD $ 19.95) you simply need to press Win+D (Win
is the button with the Windows flag) to switch to the desktop
anytime you need, from within any application. No need to
configure anything! Plus when you press Win+D again, you
automatically are brought back to the application that you were
initially using.
