How To Create A Table Of Contents Slide Containing All Titles From Your Presentation

What do you do, whe you have prepared a PowerPoint presentation that contains many slides and you want to create an outline of it to show at the beginning of your presentation?

Is there a way to create a Table of Contents for a PowerPoint presentation?

In theory, to do just that, you will have to copy and paste all the titles of each slides into a new one. This may take a while, depending on the number of slides you have.

Alternatively you may use a PowerPoint feature that will allow you to obtain a complete summary of the titles contained in all your slides in a matter of seconds, while placing the newly created "summary slide" at the beginning of your presentation.

This PowerPoint feature is called "Summary Slide".

To use the Summary Slide facility and create an index of your presentation slides, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your presentation and go to the Outline View mode. On the left side of your screen you will be able to see the text of your presentation contained in each slide.
  2. Select the whole text with CTRL+A

  3. ControlA.gif

  4. Click on the Summary Slide icon in the Outlining toolbar on your left. (In case you can't see the Outlining toolbar: Go to View, Toolbars, Outlining)

PowerPoint will immediately create a slide containing all the slide titles of your presentation and will place it at the beginning of your show.

The title automatically assigned to this new slide is "Summary Slide", but you can always change it into another one, of course.
