Presentation Delivery: Keep Your Examples Sharp And To The Point - TJ Walker Video
There are times in life when being vague and fuzzy in your speaking is of great advantage. Your boss might want to know what you've been doing for the last three hours, and you don't want to tell her that you were chatting to your friend on AIM. Your partner might choose a particularly horrific outfit and ask you what you think. Being vague in these situations is probably in your best interests. But being vague in your presentations is most definitely not.

In today's video tutorial from speaking expert TJ Walker discusses the importance of using clear, exact examples in your presentations, keeping things sharp.
There is nothing like a wishy-washy, vague example to pull your presentation out of focus. Here's why:
As TJ Walker notes:
''Too often a speaker thinks 'I don't want to offend this client, I don't want to offend these sensibilities, so if I'm general and vague, I won't offend anyone.
Well that's true. You won't offend anyone, but you also won't communicate. ''
TJ Walker's solution to this problem is three-fold and can be summarized thus: - Ask your client if they would mind you using them as a concrete example in your presentation. You have nothing to lose by asking
- Change the names of the people and companies involved, letting the audience know that this is what you're doing so as not to come across as lying or seeming phoney
- Drop the point. If you aren't willing to go into details or give examples, maybe it's worth taking a different approach to what you include in your presentation
By keeping your presentations sharp and to the point, and cutting out the fuzz and padding, you will make them a lot more memorable for your audience.
