Insecure Speakers Dump Facts By The Dozen: TJ Walker Video Tutorial
The first sign of an insecure speaker is one who eschews examples and anecdotes in favor of thousands of bullet points and piles of mind-numbing data.

''But that's what they want'', the thinking goes. ''If I don't cut through to the hard facts, people will think I don't now what I'm talking about''.
Nothing could be further from the truth. For while your audience may very well want to hear the bottom line sooner or later, if you fail to make it memorable for them, all of your endless screens of stats will have been forgotten before you shut your computer down.
In today's video tutorial from speaking expert TJ Walker of Speaking Channel TV, TJ asks what drives us to these feats of data-dumping, and how best to avoid this counterproductive approach.
Here are the details:
So remember, next time you are putting your presentation together and feel inclined ti fill it with nothing but stats, data and endless bullet points, ask yourself what is motivating your design choices.
As TJ Walker notes:
''Try to get positive ideas out, and the way to do that is not by dumping data. It's by focusing on a handful of key-points, pausing when you need to, giving examples, stories, anecdotes. That way, not only will you communicate, but you'll seem secure''
In giving yourself the space to get your message across, you will add weight to what you are saying in a way that could never be achieved by hard facts and tiresome facts repeated over and over.
