Vodcasting Tips: How To Succeed In Your Video Podcast - TJ Walker Video

These days making a presentation can go well beyond standing up in front of a room with a PowerPoint deck to help you. In the age of democratic media, many of us are called on to make podcasts and vodcasts as part of our work or outreach.

The problem is that even if you are the best presenter in the world, creating a podcast or vodcast takes a different set of skills. For one thing the format very often takes on a dialogue, which means that you have to put your interviewing skills to the test.

The trouble is that many of us have spent our lives on the receiving end of interviews, and suddenly being asked to conduct them on tape or video can be a daunting prospect.

Luckily speaking expert TJ Walker of the Speaking Channel has put together a short video tutorial on the subject.

Here are the details:

Among the highlights of TJ's advice, I particularly liked:

  • The shorter the question, the better - convoluted questions confuse both the interviewee and audience. Cut to the heart of the matter
  • Don't try to script the full questions and answers before the interview - this will seem wooden, insincere and will ultimately prevent the interview following interesting sidelines and asides that could otherwise have really brought it to life
  • Give the person you are interviewing the final word - this comes across as really professional and leaves the focus on your subject, rather than you the interviewer

With these guidelines, and the six others featured in the video, you won't go far wrong creating a compelling and enjoyable pod- or vodcast.
