Create Rich Multimedia Presentations With Flektor
If you want to be able to combine your videos, photos and audio with great looking effects, transitions and titles, and then embed the results into any blog or website, you may well want to check out Flektor.
Earlier this week I reviewed this versatile content editing and authoring application in full, which anyone can use for free straight from their web browser.
In this summary of the key features you will find in the service, I take a brief look at how you can: - Import your photos and videos from a number of sources, ready to be edited and mashed up
- Edit and apply filters to your images and videos, transforming their entire look
- Add impressive looking transitions between your media to create a seamless movie
- Introduce text, designer clip art and interactive features to the mix, including the ability to poll your viewers, or let them navigate their way around a photo-set
- Easily share your content using good-looking embeddable web widgets
Here are the details:
Types of content
Flektor lets you create or import a vast range of media types. I look at these in detail in my full review, but summarize they are: Photos from your computer or favorite web photo sharing destination
Video from your computer (webcam and video sharing site support pending)
Text, using a range of text editing features from titling to subtitles and comic book speech bubbles
Audio files in most popular formats from your computer
Interactive content, such as simple games and great looking interactive navigation of your media
Reader polls, that ask your viewer questions at a key point in the presentation and display the poll results onscreen
Effects
One of the things that really sets Flektor apart is the amazing range of effects, transitions and titling tools on offer - easily on par with desktop applications like iMovie in their scope. These can be divided into the following categories: - Special effects, from the ability to duplicate your image several times, apply a black and white filter or make your image look like a bad tv
- Overlays - that allow you to add a partial image over your video or photo, such as the controls of a tv set or an animated snow storm
- Transitions - that give you an incredible amount of creative ways to shift from one photo or video to the next
Applying effects is as simple as dragging them onto a clip in the editing timeline, and adjusting to taste via simple contextual menus.
Sharing
Flektor makes it easy to share your final presentation by embedding it into an impressive range of blogging and social networking sites via a simple snippet of code. The results can be displayed in a small, medium or large player depending on how much space you have.
In the example below I have used the medium-sized player.
Example
Here is a very quick example I made of an embedded Flektor player:
Conclusions
In my full review I concluded that Flektor:
''...makes it easy to import your photos and videos, edit and add filters to them, combine them using stylish transitions, and even add interactivity to the mix with polls, navigation and simple games...
If you are looking to combine your videos and images into interactive movies, Flektor is well worth taking a look, and will be of as much interest to educators and those looking to create online presentations as it will to bloggers and social networking service users. ''
To which I would add that it makes for an excellent way to add a real zing and energy to your presentations when sharing them online.
Highly recommended.
