Creating A Presentation - The Easy Way, The Hard Way: TJ Walker Video

When you start work on a presentation do you make it easy on yourself, or spend hours and hours researching, looking for feedback, shoehorning data into bullet points and so on?

In today's video tutorial from speaking expert TJ Walker of the Speaking Channel, TJ talks you through two diametrically opposed approaches to putting together a presentation.

The first way is the hard way, and I think many of us will recognize at least some of the twenty points covered on how people make it hard for themselves. It could just be that you are going about things all the wrong way, and TJ Walker offers some surefire fixes to bear in mind.

The second way is the easy way, and here TJ zips through the keys to presentation design success for those that want to deliver great presentations that don't take six months to create.

Here are the details:

So going from spending a hundred hours preparing a boring, tiresome ineffective presentation to spending three hours to put together a knock-out speech is all really a matter of strategy.

The key thing is in effectively using your time and not falling into the traps that so many of us can be sidetracked by. Making your PowerPoint deck, sending it out to colleagues, working their feedback into your presentation, spending hours copy pasting your notes into thousands of bullet points - these might sound like acceptable approaches, but in actual fact they will not only waste days of your life, but also result in an uninspired, uninspiring presentation.

Great communicators know how to pare down their message and illustrate it well with visual aids. Work your way through this three minute flash-tour of effective communication, and you could very well see a dramatic improvement in your future presentations.
