Outline View Benefits In A PowerPoint Presentation

PowerPoint Techniques

Most of PowerPoint users often spend lots of their precious time in inputting the textdraw content directly into the final visual slides. This creates a cumbersome process because they never see all of their content at once like when they work at preparing a report, or an outline, or a summary for a speech.

Although inputting text into individual slides is the spontaneous approach that most users take, due to the above reasons, it is not the most efficient one.

An easier approach is offered by PowerPoint thanks to the so-called “Outline View” which can help you decrease dramatically your presentation-making times.

What is the Outline View?

Video Accessories For Powerpoint Presentations

Presentation Technologies

  1. Digital Video Among the most intuitive digital video programs you can work with is muvee - a free trial version can be downloaded.

Microsoft Research has a nice article on creating cartoon movies from digital video.

TechSmith's Camtasia Producer allows you to create movies from screen captures - and then edit and distribute the videos.

Using Relative Links Vs. Absolute Ones In A Powerpoint Presentation

Hyperlinking in Presentations

Troubleshooting

Mr. Flask recently asked:

QUESTION: Dear Sir,

I have prepared a presentation on PowerPoint full of action buttons since the presentation is like a small menu linking to a lot of documents.

The issue I am finding is as follows:

I am copying this presentation including the files on a CD-ROM however, when I try to run this on the CD-ROM the links do not work. Till now i did not find a way of making a link as a relative address.

As a worksaround I linked them to an absolute address to d:\ as the CD-ROM however I'm finding a lot of issues with PCs not having drive D:\ as a CD-ROM.

Can you please help?

How To Distribute A PowerPoint Presentation On CD-ROM

BackUp & Exchange

PowerPoint Techniques

PowerPoint for Learning

Yesterday, one of my most scrupulous students, Jin, called me and asked me for the easiest way to burn a PowerPoint presentation on a CD-ROM in order to distribute it inside her organization.

I answered Jin that this was indeed a difficult question, one that I have run into before and which has had me spend quite a few hours to find an appropriate solution.

How To Write Text Live On Top Of A Slide Being Shown

Presentation Delivery

Don White asked:

QUESTION: Hi,

I teach French scientists to give talks in English. My training supports are all in PowerPoint and I also help the speakers to prepare their visuals in PowerPoint for their presentations.

Problem situation:

during my lessons and meetings people often ask me to write out words (normal, because I'm using what is for them a foreign language).

I sometimes use a Wacom tablet to be able to write directly to the screen during a training presentation, but such an approach is not very attractive for professional presentations.

When I use the "speaker's comments" ('commentaires du présentateur' in French) or the 'aide- mémoires' (I suppose it's 'reminders' or 'notes' in the English version - the on-screen aid for adding ideas to add to Outlook or print up) during the presentations my clients complain that the text is too small - they can't read what I'm typing.

Question 1:
How can I control the size of the characters in these text blocks so that people sitting 5 or 6 meters away can read them?

Is there a panel somewhere in PowerPoint that makes it possible to change the size of such characters?

Question 2:
Do you know where I could find a simple add-on function to handle such work: I'd like to be able to click on a function key or Ctrl&fnct key and be able to type text at the place of the cursor during a presentation (in large, bold print). A second click of the same key or 'escape' would turn the function off, and the typed text would disappear or simply be retained as with 'speaker's comments'.

Do you know of anything like this out there somewhere? Thanks for any information. Don White

How To Manage Links To Other Files When Converting A Presentation To Web/HTML

Troubleshooting

Rashid Mahmood asked:

QUESTION: "Hi Sir,

I have read some of your articles and these are very informative, in fact in my view MasterView is the best site for the problems related to PowerPoint.

I consider myself an advanced user of PowerPoint and I use Windows XP.

I am facing some problem relating to saving the file as a web page, I will be really thankful if u can help me.

Here I try to explain my problem. Let's suppose I have two Power Point files:
File A
File B
Both Files have 2 slides each.

Now I give a link from slide No1 of File A to slide No 2 of File B and vice versa. I save Both Files as FileA.ppt and File B.ppt hyperlinks work well in Power Point slide show. After that I transferred it into html by saving both files as a web page, so now I have FileA.html and File B.html.

Now when I open the html version of File A in Internet Explorer (i.e. FileA.html) and click the hyperlink (that should take me to the slide No 2 of File B ) it opens a power point File B i.e. FileB.ppt and not FileB.html.

So, as it appears to me, PowerPoint doesn't transfer the hyperlinks to the appropriate html file while transferring into html.

Is it possible that when I save a PowerPoint file as a Web page PowerPoint transfers all the hyperlinks to the correct html version of the other file and not to a PowerPoint file?

I want that when I open FileA.html and click the hyperlink it takes me to the slide 2 of FileB.html and vice versa!

I have tried to explain my problem. I am sure that there must be some solution of this problem, I am trying but couldn't find one, so if you can help, I will be really thankful to you."

Regards Rashid Mahmood
